The most important aspects of any electrical work are safety and reliability. Because the majority of electrical work is hidden it is vitally important you feel confident in the contractor you appoint and they have the competence and skills to carry out the required work. Most work, and any work in a bathroom, requires Building Regulations notification. To do this an Electrician needs to be an approved member of a Competent Person Scheme. More detail about the requirements can be found on the Dept for Communities and Local Government website or using this link www.electricalcompetentperson.co.uk.
What to do in an electrical emergency

We act quickly and safely in an electrical emergency – providing the rapid response services you need.
The different types of electrical emergency
First of all if there is smoke or a fizzing noise you may have a serious problem which needs immediate attention. Please phone without delay to discuss the problem.
Do not be fooled into thinking that because the electrical system is working it is healthy.
You may have experienced tripping of a circuit breaker or RCD (which could control a number of circuits). Circuit breakers can trip when a light bulb blows because they are very sensitive. Usually they will reset without problem.
RCDs trip because of an earth fault. A faulty appliance, particularly one which heats water is often the cause. Therefore try unplugging your kettle and see if it will reset. If that does not work try turning off other water heating devices if possible. If this still does not work then you will need to call us.
We will endeavour to respond to your emergency as quickly as possible as we understand that it is difficult to manage modern life without electricity.
